Launched in June 2000, the Karuna Project provides comprehensive care addressing the physical health, emotional, social, spiritual and financial well-being of leprosy-affected individuals across Mumbai and Thane districts. Leprosy (Hansen's disease, caused by Mycobacterium leprae) is fully treatable, but stigma, misconceptions and late detection prevent timely intervention — affecting entire families, not just those diagnosed.
